Motion is lotion
^^^ This phrase came up when I was talking to
a fellow coach the other day and it is so
I’ve posted before about how I feel Movement
(not necessarily exercise) is like WD40 for
your body and soul – it’s the same principle.
This point really came home t’other week when
my youngest and I were both ill. Nasty virus
that left us both with no energy and so we
sat and lay about for the best part of the
A pattern started to emerge where early
afternoon, I would get the most annoying
aching in my hips and legs….was it part of
It was simply because I was not moving!
I realised this and, although I really didn’t
feel like it, I made myself move more.
Some shoulder and arm circles. A bit of work
on hands and knees and some simple heel
slides, laid on the floor.
Not only did the aches disappear almost
immediately, I actually felt better in myself
Powerful stuff that motion!
Often when we injure ourselves, or feel
unwell, our natural default is to stop moving
– it feels like the right protective thing to
do. Sometimes it is.
Sometimes we just need to MOVE. Do what
feels achievable and enjoyable to you – go
for a walk, put your favourite tune on and
have a boogie or do as I did and just move
each limb simply.
Our bodies are designed to move.
Moving more raises our heart rate, improving
circulation, replenishing our body with
increased blood flow and therefore nutrients.
It also works harder at expelling ‘toxins’
by making us breath harder and maybe even
sweat a bit.
Breathing and sweating are too many means
your body uses to naturally detoxify….more of
that in another post soon – so hold off
shelling out on those expense detox
programmes and products
